The Islamic Teacher Education Program seeks part-time online course instructors who have experience in teaching/administering Islamic schools and hold graduate degrees in educational studies.
Instructors will be expected to teach one of the three online courses that comprise the program (purpose and philosophy of Islamic education, curriculum integration in Islamic schooling, or instructional approaches rooted in a pedagogical framework).
Preference will be given to applicants who have either completed the Islamic Teacher Education Program or are familiar with program materials and frameworks.
Teaching one course for one academic semester is estimated at 10-12 hrs/week of commitment. The contract duration is 1 year (Sept 2014 to Aug 2015).
- Facilitating weekly online discussions (1hr/day)
- Grading assignments (10-12 hrs/assignment x 2 assignments/course = 20 hrs)
- Conducting tutorials (2-4 hrs/course)
- Conducting Live Opening and Closing Lectures (3 hrs/course)
- Record two summary videos during each course (2hrs/course)
Applicants should have a minimum of 3-5 years of teaching, administering, or researching Islamic schools, teaching credentials and a graduate degree in education, experience in teacher training, involvement in a unique contribution to the field of Islamic schooling, ability to demonstrate a foundation in philosophy of Islamic educational thought, and ability to articulate challenges of Islamic schooling (in curriculum and instruction).
