SHAH ALAM, MALAYSIA – Razi formally introduced the Islamic Teacher Education Program (ITEP) at the 7th World Conference on Muslim Education in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. The conference is sponsored by Kolej University Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS) and Ikatan Ilmuan Malaysia (ILMUAN).
At the conference, Razi’s Director of Education, Dr. Nadeem Memon, presented What Islamic School Teachers Want: Toward Developing an Islamic Teacher Education Program. The session introduced the necessity of teacher training for Islamic Schools and how to teach with an Islamic pedagogy.
“This is the perfect country to introduce a program like ITEP” said Zahir Bacchus (Director of Professional Development, Razi). “Malaysia is a world leader in Islamic education and we’re excited to showcase ITEP and make a contribution to the field.”
ITEP is currently being developed by Razi in collaboration with the University of Toronto’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education’s (OISE) Continuing Education Unit. It is an online teacher training program designed specifically for teachers in Islamic schools.
The 7th World Conferences on Muslim Education (World-COME 2009) brought together some of the leading experts in Muslim education from around the world. The first conference proved to be a watershed moment in the history of Muslim education and was eagerly followed by a succession of five other world conferences held in different parts of the world. This seventh World Conference hopes to be as dynamic and as influential as its predecessors.
